The Keratec Eye Bank retrieves corneas from donors within the St George's Healthcare NHS Trust group only (St George's Hospital, Atkinson Morley Hospital and the Bolingbrooke Hospital).

Corneas are preserved by organ culture at 37°C, and evaluated for their quality of endothelial cell density before and after culture. Corneas with low endothelial cell density are processed into freeze-dried (lyophilised) lenticules, and this ensures that we achieve a high rate of transplantation of the tissue retrieved.
